ISVEBOAUOILL, AugUßt 9. A question which has been agitating country storekeepers was brought before the County Council by a deputation; who complained that the retail houses in Dunedin send out men with vehicles to canvas for orders by sample throughout the district from house to house. These paid no license fees, while they used tho roads and bridges, and were said to have taken £37,000 out of Southland last year. In discussing th„ matter it was elicited that hawker' 9 licenses in this largo district only produced ninety shillings to th e revenue, of which one Councillo paid forty, The deputation asked that 3tops bo taken to make these travellers pay something to the county revenue. The Council will consider the framing of a bye-law which will include them.
