Market Report.

Messrs W. Wedded & Co., -agents for tho New Zealand Farmers' Co-operative Association of Canterbury (Limited) report under date London 15th Juno :- Wool.—Since the date of our last report the market has remained quiet, as is usually the case before the opening of any series of sales. The trade throughout this country and on the Continent is in a very sound position, and the volume of business reported is large, It is roughly estimated that there will be some 80,000 bales of Now Zealand crossbred wool to be offered at the forthcoming auctions, and the cataloguing of this quantity will naturally test the market to its utmost oapacity. The list of fresh arrivals for the third series was closed on the 4th inst., when some 425,000 bales had arrived. Adling old stock, and deducting 80,000 bales forwarded direct to manufacturing districts, some 825,000 bales remain for sale, of which 118,000 bales are New Zealand wool. Butter.-No fresh business to report in New Zealand descriptions. General market vory week. Supplies heavy,

Oheese,—A small shipment pei "Arawa" made 45s and 50s pei owt, and a parcel per " Aorangi 11 about 45s average. Market foi American steadier, after a decline, at 49s and 48s.

Grain.—Although the weather in the South-Eastern Counties ha been very broken during the pas fortnight, it has been brilliant in 1 other parts of the country, and the general condition of the crops is very satisfactory. Continental and American crop reports are still in favor of i abundant harvests. The market here has remained depressed, the Whitsuntide holidays tending to accentuate the duluess for a time. The country markets have also been dull and lifeless, many farmers being busy with their hay crops. A slight improvement has been witnessed in the enquiry for New Zealand parcels, but prices have barely been maintained, We quote:—Sound longberry, good to fair, 37s Gd and 80s per iOGlbs; sound short-berry, good to fair, 84s aud 35s Gd per 4961b5. Off coast,—No transactions have been reported, Arrival "Wellington" at Lyttelton, 187 sacks wheat. Beans.—A quiet trade. New Zealand parcels 88s and 40s per BOilbs. Frozen Meats.—The course of values in the Home market has been strongly upwards for mutton, rather downwards for lamb, and about stationary for beef, but from day to day there have been important fluctuations consequent upon irregularity of supply, The abundant pasturage now available throughout the country has caused a strong demand for store stock, aud farmers are putting all available animals upon their grass. High prices, however, tempt holders from timo to time, and the market becoming suddenly more fully supplied prices give way, and then supplies are again checked, These remarks apply chiefly to mutton. Lambs have been moro persistently held back, but nevertheless thero are largo quantities to be disposed of at present currencies so soon as they are in condition, Beef has been comparatively stationary, any tendency to shortness in home supplies being counteracted by the full importations of American,

As regards frozen mutton and lamb the market has been excited, ami prices have advancos vapidly, In the caso of mutton the deamess of home fed has doubtless had some influence upon prices, but the principal factors have been, and are still, the scarcity of Plate sheep, the unusual lightness of stocks of New Zealand sheep and the shortness qf Continental, The break' down of the lonic (s) happening when supplies afloat were light (for the time of the year), and the absence of arrivals apart irom the regular steamers lmvd resulted in an unusually small import for a period of four weeks, Supplies being concentrated and strongly held in view of the statistical position, rates have advanood very quickly during the past fortnight, and are likely to be maintained till the en of the month when fresh arrivals are due. The improvement for the fortnight is fully Id per : lb, In the case of lambs the lightness of New Zealand stocks, and the face of their being mostly concentrated have ufficed to effect an improvement of \i to Id per lb in face of a decline in Home lambs, The large cargo per Wellington has tuned outin excellent condition, and being of good quality, and firmly held, is realising full market rates.
