(From Out Own Correspondent) The chief topic of conversation just now is the Uhomis case. The general opinion seems to bo that their was not sufficient ovidenco to commit. At tho weekly meeting of the Debating Society the subject was discussed Strong opinion seemed to be entertained that circumstantial evidence alone was not, and should not be taken as sufficient to warrant taking life, Several gentlemen expressed the opinion that hanging was a baibarous relic of the dark ages. John Warren Bichell, a connection of Mr and Mrs Parsons ot the Eketahuna hotel died at the hotel alter a short illness. The deceased had injured his leg some time ago, and neglected it. As it wis getting worse t!» doctor was called in and ordered bis removal to tho hospital, but too late as he expired on Thursday last. The funeral took place on Saturday, a large number of friends attending. Professor Wyburd gavo us a small specimen of his ability on the skatas at the new hall on Wednesday last. There was a very small attendance. On the same evening a free concert was given by tho Good Templars in Parsons' hall, about one hundred being present, and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves,
