THE Saawuxa Murder. July 8, After the jury had returned from viewing tho scene of the murder yesterday, Charles Bowles, of Carterton, cousin to Mrs Hawkings, was called and gave evidence similar to
that given in the Lowor Court. A German carpenter named Leddin had stayed at Hawkings 1 . Mr Hawkings had always invited him there. Further examined tho witness stated that Leddin had arrived from Foxton on
the Thursday after the funeral of Mr Hawkings. 'Witness had not heard any shots fired on tho night of the
31sc, The wind was southeast and was blowing up the gully, "Witness had a cousin named George Bowles residing in the Wairarapa, His cousin did not go to Hawkings' house as they were not on very good terms, Mrßnuny. Do you know why they quarrelled 1 The witness said he did not know. Mr Bunny: Then I will refresh your memory, Do yon remember your cousin going bankrupt Witness: Yes, Mr Bunny i Do yoi remember him bringing 200 sheer
lown to Hawkins. Witness: Yes
Mr Bunny : Ho gave these sheer over to Hawkings in custody for him,
Witness: I don't know. Mr Bunny: Don't you know that ho gave them over to Hawkings' custody ? Witness: No, Mr Bunny: Do you know that after he brought tho sheep down

Mr Bunny; And you know that the 200sh3ep were not among the assets, The creditors did not get them.
Witness : I don't know. The witness further stated that ho know that the sheeji camo down there, but did not know what had beconio of them. Tuesday, Tho first witness in the murder case this morning was P. Bolton, solicitor, who merely deposed the prisoner had refused to sign the agreement of lease between Hawkings and himself, and that legal proceedings had been instituted. Therowere negotiations for a settlement, but none had ever been rrrived at. James McOallum said he had never had a row with Hawkings. The latter had never beaten him, but had threatened him once. Did not know of deceased ever having had a quarrel with the prisoner,
Dr C'ahill was the next witness. He minutely described tho wounds in a way already published. In consequence of what camo out in the cross-examination of Charles Bowles yesterday, subpffinas were immediately served by the Orowu on George Bowles and Leddin,
