Masterton Town Lands Trust.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Trustees was held last night, Present—Messrs R. M. Galloway, (in tho chair), W. Perry, and McEwen,

Tbe minutes of the previous meeting having been read and confirmed, the Treasurer reported a credit balance of LBB 5s 9d. An application was made from the Fernridge school for a grant for school purposes and asking for a grant from the picnic fund for school prizes. The Masterton school also applied for prize money.

Tho consideration of the applications were held ovbi for a fuller meeting. The Rev. Father McKenua wrote thanking the Trustees for the grant made to the Roman Catholic School iat their .last meeting, The Committee appointed to subdivide section 88 for the purpose of leasing the same by auction, gaye in their report. Mr McEwen moved and Mr Galloway seconded that in theevent of the three sections being let to one person, building to the value of £4OO should be erected thereon instead of three separate buildings of £2OO each, Carried.

Messrs Galloway and Perry were ■appointed a Committeo to lease the dwelling on town acre 89.

A letter was read from C. R. Carter in reference to the proposed new Trust Bill. The Clerk stated he had shown the letter to the Chairman and Mr Ronall, and in acoordanoe with instructions had written to Mr Carter-asking him to fix adato upon which he could meet the Trusteos to consider the Bill, and had not yet had a reply. It was resolved that the Chairman be authorised to call a special meeting when a reply was received, The following accounts were passed for payment:—Smith and Hogg, £3 15s, printing and advertising; Masterton Borough, £lB 15s, rates; 4s cleaning cottage. This concluded the business.

Wairarapa Poultry, Pigeon, anc . Canaiy Association. •

Patron: His Worship the Mayor, Mr A. W. Eenall. President: Mr H. H. Beotbain: Vice-Presidents: Dr W. H. Hosking, H. B. Bunny, R. Boys, A, Elltins, L, J. Hooper, W. McKenzie, F. G. Moore, Committee: C. Anketell, T. Bannister, B, Bannister, J. Billington, C. Cooper, T, Dixon, B. J. Fitton," D. D. Hyde, W. Q. King, 0. Perry, J. R. Skelly, M. Williams. A. Aj White, J. Williams, M. Wilton, A, Walker, J, Yates, Secretary: Mr B, J. Fitton. Treasurer: Mr. A, A. White. Judges: Poultry, A. Saunders; Pigeons, Burton Boys; Canaries, A. A, White.

The Fifth Annual Show of tho Association opened in the Drill Hall, Masterton, yesterday, Tho attendance of visitors owing to the continuous , downpour of rain was very small, but '. the show will no doubt be well | patronised today. The quality of the ', exhibits was qmto equal to anv ; previous year, and the district I deserves every credit for being able I to get together such a large variety , and number of exhibits of such really . fine birds, On a dull day such as yesterday, the exhibits are seen to . better advantage in the evening. The ' hall being splendidly lit from the ceiling with powerful reflectors the light is thrown down on to the pens, which being' covered with wire , netting, offer hut slight impediment ; to-the light; whereas in the day . time on the side of the hall where there are no windows, it is difficult to see the points of breeding, and it is a wonder to us how the judges were able to get through their duties, The most extensive exhibitors in poultry are Messrs A, Walker and Co, Wilton and Bannister, W. 6. King, A. A, White, and O. Perry. The first named hold tho President's cup for the greatest number- of points in poultry for the year and win the Society's gold medal; Mossrs Wilton and Bannister talto the Society's silver medal as next highest, tho points being respectively 255 and 201. In turkeys Dr Hosking was the only exhibitor, but his entries in the American bronze variety area show in themselves, These mammoth birds proved a great attraction, A twenty-two months old imported cock and a hen of the same age were shown; the former scaled the enormous weight of 401bs and the hen nearly lfjlbs. The progeny of these imported birds give promise of turning out even better than the parent birds, A pair of pullets shown 8 months old, already weigh over 801bs (the two), and the gobbler of the same age reached 22|lbs. The exhibitor estimates that a ; pair he is now rearing lor next year's show will, judging by comparisons, reach 521bs and.24lbs edc.lt and' hen. respectively. This beautiful variety of turkey has. been introduced by Dr Hosking at great expense, but with very satisfao-

Tory results. He has pupplied trios of them to all parts, including Napier, Taranaki, Woodville, and Canterbury. 'lt lias been affirmed that turkeys cannot be raised by the aid of the incubator and artificial mother, but Dr Hosking has proved that supposition to be erroneous, all his stock having been brought out by this mechanical arrangement, no eggs being set to the hen.

In geese, Mr T. Ray showed a couple of fine large pairs that could not be beaten. Ducks and geese made also a vory creditable display. Pigeons, canaries and songsters wery in very limited numbers and call for no special remarks. The guinea pigs proved an attraction to the youngsters, and the cats are on exhibition todav, -.

weather having no»v cleared there is every prospect of the Show being well patronised to-day, and that will make up for the want of attendance yesterday, We'sincerely trust it will be so, as the- Committee deserve every encouragement for tho arduous work they have undertaken of improving the breed of poultry throughout the Wairarapa. It has been demonstrated times out of nun* bers that prize poultry are no more expensive to keep than tho common barn-yard fowl, and the returns from them is no small item to the pocket of the farmers wife, with proper caro and attention. Let poultry growers get rid of the" scrubbers and go in lor breeding from the prime birds only, and they will soon reap the reward of their first outlay. At the close of the Show to-night a Dutch Auction will bo held. This will give many the opportunity, if they desire it, of securing some prize birds for stud purposes, Mr Pearsons band will be in attendance tonight, when it is anticipated there will be a great crowd of visitors at the Drill Hall,

We append a list of the prize winners. The classes that showed up best of. any were the Andulasians, tLangshaus, Partridge Cochin, Hamburgs, and Leghorns, the Andulnsian aking the precedence.
