The youngest eon of Mr Berg Mangaone, met with a painful accident on Saturday last. It appears that his elder brother was chopping at a stump. The younger brother stumbled against the stump and put his hand out to save himself with the result that the axe descended and out tbe tliirfl finger off at the third joint. Mr Bryant, contractor, also met with a nasty accident through his hand netting jammed between two logs. A short time ago Mr Bryant nearly sovered two of tbe fingers of tho same hand ou the same contract. Mr S. George, Alfredten, met with an accident in a curious maimer. It appears that a man, taking advantage of no one being in tbe bar, holped himself to a bottle of gin. Mr George went after the thief, and tried to take it from him. In the tussle the bottle got broken, and Mr Georgo fell on it and out his leg below the knee, very, severely. The weekly meeting of the Debating Society' was held on Tuesday. Tbe minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Tho subject " Should the franchise bo extended to women" was debated. Mr Williauis'in opening mentioned that England. had progressed more under the reign of the three Queens, than all the Kings that she ever had. Every great and noble action done in tho world had been brought about by women. Mr Bryant in negative said that if a poll was taken on the subjeot it would be found that women did not want the franchise. Several other gentlemen took part in the debate. The Chairman having summed up, a show of hands was taken, which resulted in favor of the negative, Next week there will be no debate, tbe night will be given to readings, recitations, eto.
