Mr Wise, formerly AttorneyGeneral of New Somh Wales, writing on Australiau politics, makes some severe remarks on colonial Irishmen, .After stating that corruption is unknown among colonial politicians, he. proceeds to say that members of Parliament who make themselves conspicuous by disorderly conduct are generally Irish or represent Irish constituencies. The Irish vote is cast Tn New South Wales for protection, m Victoria for publicans, in Queensland for Nationalism, but in all cases it is always against the Government. The object of the Roman Catholic priesthood, he alleges, is to' obtain control of the public schools; the object of the laity is to grab the publio offices.
