• Auckland, June 10. The Auckland North Licensing Committee have again adjourned until the 20th instant,'their decision in the case of the Aurora, Clanricarde, Shamrock, Wharfj Eagle, and Fores- , tors' Arms' Hotes. In respect of Aurora and Slianirook Hotels, how- ™ ever, they intimated that they would grant. licenses if new applicants, satisfactory to the Committee cam«|f^, forward. T*' At the Supreme Court to-day, Joseph-Hood was sentenced to fouryears penal servitude for larceny of jewellrey, and Thomas Watts - two years' penal servitude for burglary at Otahuhu. The Te Aroha wounding case, in which John Wood was charged... wii.li- wounding Frederick Hyd6,' was withdrawn. E, H. Jagger was charged with having obtained £lo'from T. Slater by false pretences. This is the case in which it was alleged the prisoner obtained sums of moneyby showing what purported to be a copy of a cable message, from .'London intimating that he had come into possession of a fortune of over £12,000, and the accusation was that no such message had been received, The evidence,. however, was not sufficient, and Jaggar was acquitted. Other charges are to'be preferred against him. " Tlio dead body of a man named Benallick was found near' Penrose. to-day. It is BUpposedthat ho was thrown out of the cart-he was and killed. ■ Vt 4fl|
