, The : adjourned';-meeting of the Onnniil was/held at their offico, Carterton, on Saturday. Present- Crs H; K; Bunny (chairman), A. Matthewd, W. (jundy, Hi Braithwaite, W. Booth, Martin, W.-C. Buchanan, W.Wmttan.'B.'A. Wnkelin. The * j minutes of the previous meeting were ,tjC read and confirmed, Accounts over« '* - drawn by £l4 Gall, Correspondenoo were' read from Mr Brown, asking the Council's .cooperation re the amendment of the Crown Lands Act. Cr Buchanan speaking on the rial 'from the 'Tannings County Council re the Land Act and considered that that Council ninde A much of the matter, he thought thX the public should be*, made awaroof lands for Bale with ob little delay as possible. The matter wbb left till the next meeting of the Council. Cr Martin asked whether the Council could not use their powers to try and stop, in the meantime, further Bale of bush lauds, From Licensed Vio tuallera Committee, asking the Connoil's co-operation in getting tbo Licensing Act •Amended in respect to the licensing committees, which it waa proposed'should be done away with and the powers vested in local bodies. The matter'was left till the next meeting, of the Couneil for further consideration. • Prom Sydneyhara Ooiinty Council re ratepayers Insurance Company; ordered to lay dn the' table. From Exhibition Commit- . ' tee, no action taken. From the Pabiatua'County Council re the amendment of the Land Act,u referred to the Road. Boaids of tl'oT district. The report of the delegaW re Charitable Aid was read. Tfk Clerk reported the matter in reference to the interview with'Mr Travers, and it was moved by Or Booth, and seconded by Cr Buchanan,' that the action of the Wellington Benevolent Institution be resisted to the utmost, that Mr Travers be -employed, and that the seal of this Council bo affixed to tho letter from the delegates, empowering him to defend the ca6e. Cr Martin stated that there was bush land which had not been surveyed, now open for sale, and he wished that the Council would try to induco the Government to : withdraw it from sale " in the meantime. Several of the Councillors having spoken on the ' matter, it was resolved that a request > be sent from this Council to the Uoniniinlp'ner of Crown Lands to withdraw certain bush land in the vicinity of Otaraia from sale for the present, Some accounts were passed for payment, and the Council adjourned until Saturday, the 02nd June.
