The match between the above ' Club's oameoff on the latter'B ground ~ , on Saturday afternoon, and alter one A , of the fastest and most interesting |JF games we have seen on ft Mastorton ground resulted in a draw, each side securing a try. Messrs L Nix and 6. H. Smith aoted as unipires,'Bev J, McKenna officiating as referee, The Carterton team arrived two short, and were fortunate in seounng two good substitutes in F, Perry and , T. From some loose forward play Thompson got possession from a pass, and finished up a nice run by passing {o Felling, who punted up the line. Light scrums followed, and Snodgrass puuted into touch. On the throw in ~

Ussher averted the .■.■.'•; danger by kicking to the centre. l?he : Stir forwards, headed by 0. Percy, .. .. curried tho leather down the field, and a run by Thompson .took it to their opponents twenty-five. The -,:■•; Rival forwards responded splendidly, ; '; and the centre was again the scene of play. Patterson .marked, and . •' Thompson took a shot at goal.. The • , ball rebounded from tho opposing forwards and Ptslliug marked. (This, by the way, should not' have been . allowed, as it is distinctly against the rales). Give and take play followed, the leather being transferred .j from one end to the other. . Thomp- ■'■■fr son got possession from the centre, and a good run and excellent passing
took the play to the Sivals' line, A ' scrum ensued, and tho Eivuls were forced down. Soon after the kick out Polling marked at the centre, and Thompson took a shot at goal, the bali just dropping beneath the bar,Afc The Rival line was again in and they were again compelled to ' accept the inevitable. A combined rusli took the play to. the Star twenty-five, where Hoar kicked into touch. The Star forwards, by a loose dribble, hr-which Freeth was . ■ conspicuous, carried the play'down tho field, and Hawke punted into ' touch at the centre. Some very fast : irork tollowed, aud the Rivals obtained a free kick for an. infringement of tho rules. Half-time was • called with the sphere in .the twenty-five. "^Hfl Iggulden's kick off was Ussher, and Thompson good run by kicking the Rivals' forwards removed the j other end, McCarthy went wide, and the Stars were 1 down. The 1 Carterton forwards played a good , B combined game, and wero, moreover, i' in capital form. Indeed it was their 6 form alone which enabled them to ? avert dofeat, Their backs, on the e other hand with the exception of I) McCarthy and Hawke, did nothing e worthy of mention. Want of form e and combination was plainly discernd able in the Star forwards, and in the ! - last quarter of an hour they comn pletely collapsed. Thoir back play, s with-one exception, was faultless, a and will take a lot of beating,
