It was'proyed. that men were playing Yankee- grab for drinlts. The Resident Magistrate held this to be an unlawful point in the defence was that the defendant'was not aware of it, but it. was shown he was in and out of the bar for drinks for other , rooms, and the Magistrate said he did not believe the denial oi knowledge. The police ■were informed by a man who swore he saw one of the players cheating with false dice, and .the man was convicted of it last' Monday. •: : ■ •

The Richmond brings further news that when tho French man-of-war reached fhe island named, the natives had hoisted the British flag, thus securing the' island against French occupation.
