L, Murray, on the eve of his wedding .to Miss MayEllen-Wyeth, a daughter of one of the oldest and most respected tradesmen of Masterton. After the business premises were closed, Mr P. Dickson, on behalf of the employes, in a suitable speech presented Mr Murray with a beautiful pail of hand-painted plaques and a pair of nicely mounted plate tdass mirror brackets, and on behalf of himself a very handsome eight day marble time-piece by Mr \V, Dougall, of Masterton, In making the presentation, Mr Dickson wished tho recipient and the partner he was about to unite himself to, long years of happiness in their wedded life. During tho time Mr Murray had been in his employ ho had gained the respect aud confidence of all with whom his business relations brought him into contact. He was to bo congratulated upon having secured buo'i a prize in tho marriage lottery, and concluded by. wishing them both a long and prosperous life. Mr Murray replied in suitable terms, Do thanked Mr Dickson for his expressions of confidence. It is stated that there is great destruction of kiwis proceeding in the Waitakerei ranges, A settler who lives there, and who has good opportunity of knowing, estimates that during the last summer from 400 to 500 kiwis must have' been caught and killed in Waitakarei. "Maritana" was repeated at the Theatre Boyal on Wednesday night before a moderate house. The performers, with one or two exceptions who appeared to be indifferent as to how the play went, acquitted themselves well, and every item was loudly applauded. Great disappointment was felt by. many at the non-appearance of the Governor, they having evidently gone there with the expectation of seeing hiin, The town of Masterton was in quite a Butter of excitement this morning over a wedding that took place in ".St. Matthew's,Ohuroh. The nappy couple are Mr J. L. Murray, of the Wholesale Drapery .Company and Mary' Ellen,' daughter of Mr Eobert Wyeth an old and respected storekeeper of this town. Soon after thedepartureuf the Governor groups of ladies with smiling faces began to make their appearance near the Church and as soon as the doors were thrown open, entered the sacred edifice, which was speedily filled. Punctually at 11.30 a carriage and pair of horses pranced up to the Church entrance, and the bride accompanied by three bridesmaids alighted in tho presence of a largo and eager throng of onlookers. The brido was arrayed in a long trailing dress of cream coloured nuns-veiling, trimmed with rich lace anp pearls, with bowaof ribboiiß to match the slmdo of the dress. On her head she wore a wreath of orange blossoms and over all a lom; veil of tulle. The bridesmaids wereniecss of the brido, tho two little Miss Chamberlains and Miss Harris They wore dressed in white trimmed with blue silk. Tho ceremony was conducted by the Eev. W. E. Paige and at its conclusion the wedding march was played on tho harmonium by Mrs Paige. From tho Church te the carriage the . path was liued with ladies, The appear, ance of the newly wedded couple was tho signal for showers of rice, They drovo off admidst tho cheers of tho spectators, Tho Children's Plaiu and Fancy Dress Dance in the Drill Hall last nijplit was a great success, The attendance of children in picturesque costumes was considerable and the double row of seats all round the Drill flail were filled with onlookers, The Committee of ladies wore tho'distinotive uniform of Hospital nurses, The most effective amongst the costumes were worn by Mrs Corbett's two little children "Grandma and Grandpa."
