■, Tht Wanganui Herald gives an interesting, though somewhat onesided report of the retirement of Mr George Fisher from the Miniptry, and the offer of a seat to Mr Whyte, With regard to '.he former, our contemporary alleges that while Mr Fisher was under the ipipressiou that the bier duty cnseß wero under consideration in the Cabinet, bis own doom wiia really being sealed, and that, in fact, while be was discussing matters with his colleagues which pertained to his department, they bad already signed the warrant for his expulsion. As to the offer of a seat to Mr Whyte, that is eaid to have been made to him by Mr Fergus some lime before Mr Fisher's retirenjept. This looks highly probable, but it only in parts oxplains how Sir Harry Atkinsop came .to be jn a position' to deny that the offer had been made, As to the first point, it is highly probable that Mr Fisher has furnished his own version to the Wanganui Herald, and we will therefore be excused if we do pot accept it as the absolute truth, If our surmise is right it would appear that Mr Fisher and Mr Ballance have the subject of an alliance under consideration.
