We were, of course, glad to receive Mr J, Vile's letter, which wo published yesterday, bearing ae it did on such an important subject as tho adjustment of accounts botween the Counties of Wairarapa North and Pahiatua, Mr Vile, however, labors under some misapprehension with regard to tho article which we published on the 11th instant. His very first paragraph contains the assertion that we were dealing with " the matter on an arbitration of the Audit Department as between the Wairarapa North and Pahiatua County Councils." If he will read our article over again he will find that we did not refer to tho matter as between tha two counties, but as ono in which the Audit Department had given an award which was open to being road in two ways, and that, when applied to for an explanation, a reply had been given that the Department could not explain its awards, That the award is open to be read two.ways is plainly shown by the fact that the two Comity Councils have taken wide differ' ent views of it. Mr Vile appears to hold that there is no room for two opinions, and imputes unworthy motives to the Wairarapa North Council which have certainly no foundation, in fact, and which seem entirely uncalled for.. The remainder of Mr Vile's letter, though interest' ing, is foreign to the subject with which we dealt.
