1 Taratalu-Carterton Road Board, ' Tue ordinary ■monthly meeting of ! tho Board was held on Saturday. Present Messrs H. B, Bunny, (Chairman), H, Braithwaite, E. W. ■ Dorset, W. Parker, J. Rayner, E. I Morgan, Jas, Slovens, W. B. Allen, • and N, Grace. Tho minutes of the ■ previous meeting were read and confirmed, , The Treasurer reported re--1 ceipts since Inst meeting- £l2B 12s, and outstanding rates about £BS. ' Owing on loans, £1417 4s 6d. The ' yearly revenue has heen £4059 6s Id. ' Correspondence inwards—Prom D. Deer, asking to have somothing dono to a road at South Carterton. Agreed to. From Mr Welch, Matarawa, complaining about, a gravel pit being dug in front of his property, Tfte Warden explained the circipstai|jfc in connection with tho matter, said that he did not consider that it would in any way depreoiatu the value of tho complainant's proporty, Eesolved that tho letter lay upon the tablo, aud'at t|ie same time the Clerk inform Mr Wjlch that every pre. caution will be taken to prevent ', accidents, & , Mr W. Booth waited on the Board' in reference to a road leading from Ihb property to the Belvedere rbwj, aud pointed out that when he boupt the land from the Government tho li'd6 of road was shown on the map, but lately ho had ascertained that th?. ■ said road |«d nevpr been Gazetted. When talking to tho Chief Surveyor on the matter he wanted to throw the onus of the road upon the Road Board, which ho (Mr Booth) would not consent to. At the last interview the Survey Department consented to . have the road formed if the Board would have the pegs put in, Ho asked that some little work bo >{lri ' to make the road passable tor &Hf( The matter was left in tho bauds of the Warden. Mr .Booth asked to have permission to take 20 or 30 loads of boulders from the Cemetery road. Mr Dorset asked that tho road known as Short road be opened to connecyvith Perry's road, A depletion waited on the Board with reference to something being dono to the railway road (Mainraw»). Tho warden explained the matter, ■when it was moved, That tenders bo called for the work, to :lose next Saturday. Resolved that the Returntsfif iug Officer make Monday, the 6th day of May, tho day for electing the new members to the Road Board, and that the annual meeting be held- on Saturday the 4th May at noon, and a meeting ot ratepayers be held or. the same day, Resolved that tho charges in connection with the survey, tfcc, of Jkii road at East Taratahi be divided Nos, 1, 2, audßWards, Repairs of a bridgde on the Coast road was left in the hands of the Wardens No. 8 Ward. Resolved that £2 be allowed to Mr Jones for compensation for a right of road through bis land at Matarawa, Mr Dorset moved that notice be sent to the residnnts of Somerset road to remove all obstructions therefrom.— Agreed to. Rosolved, on the motion of Mr Braithwaito that Mr Rolf be allowed £4 for divcrlinu tho creek in conjunction with the Park Road and Carter's road, and also 17 chains of Jencing on the Park road. Mr Renal waited on the Board in reference to a road to his property, as through Mr Booth fencing tho' Middlo I)tm his road is completely stopped, Mr Braithwaito moved That a road be jt surveyed to Mount Holdsworth, and T* that the Ministor of Lands be written to to ask tho Government to allow a sum of money for the said work. Mr ' W. B. Allen seconded thu motion. After somo discussion, the motion by of the Board was withdrawn, ÜBfr Booth atteuded the Board in Company with Mr Renall, and an amicable arrangement was come to about Mr Renall having the use of the old road for the present. It was resolved that a committee be appoio. ted to arrange in respect to a road through Mr Booth's and the Native lands, Mr Grace moved That the maintenance of tho main road be lot by tender for n terra of five years, a mile and a quarter to bo metalled with good metal 12ft wido and Ginches thick, Mr Stevens seconded tho motion which ,va6 carried. Some accounts wero passed for payment, and tho meeting adjourned.
