The dispate between the head office of the New Zealand Seamen's Union and tho Auckland branch has been amicably settled, Mi- Ellison, the secretary appointed by the Auckland branch, having decided to retire from his position voluntarily to prevent a continuance of the disputes, Ho therefore gave up his office on Thursday last, and it is now occupied by. Mining Christciiubcu, March 7. At an extraordinary general meeting of the Welcome Silver Mining Company to-night it .was decided to suspend further operations at Owens till some future date. A general feeling of dissatisfaction was expressed at the working, no galena having been got out, and the meeting deemed it probable that if the operations were suspended, the other com-, panies interested in the neighboring mines would combina to secure a complete geological test of the country,
Horticultural- - Curisicuuroii, March 7. Tho largest horticultural show held in Christchurch opened' at the Palace Riuk to-day. There is an oxtensivadisplay in all classes, the pot plants being .exceedingly good. The attendance in the evening was very largo.
Rifle Association, Blenheim, March 7. • Captain Somerville' finished laying out the range to-day. The locality is a capital one. The distance from Blenheim, by a splendid road/ is under three miles, The buildings belonging to the Marlborough Racing Club have been placed at the disposal of the Association. - There is a grand supply of artesian water, and Captain Somerville thinks the meeting will be one .of the besi the Association has ever heri.
