Fatal Accident.

Hokitika, Thursday. A man named Bobort J, Smith sustained a fatal accident yesterday while engaged prospecting near the loop-line. Deceased andfhis mate found the rope they were using too short and borrowed one from a neighbor. His mate thought the rope was not strong enough, but Smith resolved to try it. When down fifty feet tho rope broke and he fell the remaining distance of fifty feet to the bottom. When picked up he was alive, but died while being conveyed to the hospital. "A Spanking Legacy."

Rough on Rats.

Tijiaru, Maroh 6, A woman named Gray, alias Majoi'j attempted suicide this afternoon by taking "rough on rats." Medical aid was quickly culled in and the woman taken to the hospital. She is now out of danger. No reason is given for the rash act, The woman was living in Tiraavu for some years.

"That it is 'desifablo to have a system of trained female nurses," This was carried unanimously; but considerable diversity of opinion prevailed as to the merits and defects of the present -system, The other questions were adjourned till Monday.
