Whareama Road Board.

A special meetiag of the Board was held on Thursday. PresentMessrs E, Meredith (chairman), Elder, Morrison, K. E, Meredith, G. Moore, and T. Carswell.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. It was resolved on the motion of the chairman, seconded by Mr Carswell, "That the Board having carefully considered the gravity of the position in having a public road under its control forcibly obstructed resulting in the stoppage of Her Majesty's mails, instruct the chairman to place the matter in the hands of Messrs Chapman and Fitzgerald, and under their advice take prompt proceedings against the offenders, and do all such things as may be deemed necessary in vindication of the Boards outhority and the publio interests,

Tho foregoing resolution was carried on a division by the easting vote of the chairman, For the motion Messrn 11. Meredith, T. Carswell, and the chairman; against it, Messrs Elder, Moore, and Morrison,

It was resolved to send a copy of the resolution together with all correspondence bearing thereon to Messrs Chapman and Fitzgerald. It was resolved on the motion of Mr R, Morodith, seconded .by Mr Carswell, "That the Board authorise one or more members of the Board to take steps and procure suoh assistance as may be nocessary for the effectual removal of the obstruction to tho Road at Eparaima. Mr Moore moved and Mr Carswell seconded that Messrs Morrison and the mover be appointed to act under the foregoing resolution. Mr E. Meredith moved • and the chairman seconded an amendment that Messrs R. Meredith and Thos, Carswell be appointed, The amendment was carried, and the special meeting closed.

Uuder the ordinary business, it was resolved that the Board approvos of the resolution passed by tho North Wairarapa County Council at its last meeting, having for its object the legalisation of roads, and instructs tho Chairman to sign it. It was also resolved that a progress payment of £SO be made on No 2 Contract. Payment of the amount of Mr Pownall's costs of 21s, re obstruction of road at Eparaima was .passed • for payment, on a division, ou tho casting voto of the Chairman. Messrs Chapman and Fitzgerald's account of £l2 Is Gi was allowed to eland over until the next regular meeting of the Board. Sundry small accounts amounting to £7 6s'2d were passed for payment. Messrs R, Meredith, Carswell, and the Chairman were appointed to sign cheques. This conclude J the business.
