Andrew Hamilton, brewer, was convicted on five charges of " neglecting to make proper entries^of the beer removed from his brewery for consumption. He was fined £SO on each olmrge and costs. The stock, implements and beer at the date of each information to be confiscated, or default three months. ; Two charges against John ' Edmunds for neglecting to cancel a stamp oil a beer cask and make an entry of a bale of hops were dismissed, but costs were refused on account, of/"'the defendants own negligence bringing' the prosecution on him. ' At the adjourned fire inquest, into the circumstances surrounding the recent lire on the premises of Herbert ; Maxwell Bradbury, a draper at Nekton, held to-day, Bradbury did not appear. Inspector Broliam said at the last sitting ot the jury, ho Wjts told that Bradbury had gone to Pbrt Albert from the police. Enquiries made found that Bradbury had not been there, and could not bo found in the district, : A large amount of evidence was taken as to the state of Bradbury's business. Two firamen deposed to there being' two distinct fires in the building, one below, and one upstairs, Miißradbury, mother of Bradbury, deposed that sho could not tell whero her son was. He left a note in the cash box for her, which she found, and a cheque for £lB. The note contained the following; —"Dear Ma,—l might go to Port Albert, but don't you be alarmed, I will wire you on Thursday. VI cannot bear any more worry about the fire. I have left a cheque which you can use, and'have taken some money with me (but lie did. not say how much). Most likely I will see you again .soon," This note was found on Monday week, about an hour after he left.'
