On Sunday about half past 7 o'clock Mr Cavey arose and Went into the kitchen for , the purpose of lighting the fire. He noticed a little smoke hovering about the room towards the ceiling, but no more than if some one had been , Bmoking a pipe in tho room, He i colled to his wife " Where's the smoke coming from." He then went outside . the house and saw a'small but dense column of smoke rising from the roof at the end of the house close to the chimney. He Bhouted to bis wife that the house was on .fire, and ran and helped to get his family out, and what things he bad in the rooms, He then ran across, to Mr Doraett's house a few chains distant and gave the alarm. There was no water except what could be obtained from the creek near hand, and that;couid only be procured with great difficulty on account of the steep banks, Several people came tip but" nothing could be done to save the house.
