It is reported that Colonel Roberta is likely to be the new E.M. f,of the Wairarapa, and to have reason to believe that the rumor is correct, The Colonel has bad no previous experience as an K.M., and the lawyers of this district will Have the pleasing task of training him to discharge his new duties. On this ground the appointment is open to objection, but we suppose this gallant officer has claims on the Government which cannot' be met in any other way, Of course the Colonel may develop into an exemplary E.M., but tlio time has almost arrived when the_practice of selecting military men for judicial positions should be abandoned. :
