The Wairarapa Daily. FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 15, 1889. UN-CHARITABLE AID.
At yesterday's meeting of - tlic Maeterton Hospital Trustees, ; tbt Kev W. E. Paige referred to ai: article published in the Wairaham Daily as an uncalled for attempt tc injure the hospital. It is somewhat singular that in this article there is absolutely 110 stricture on the hospital management,, and we emphaticallj deny Mr Paige's assertion and diallenge him to cite evidence from the article in question in support of his remark. As to theimputation of motive wliiok lie makes, we suppose wo must excuse it, emanating as it does fron a olergyman, who no doubt consider; he has a special mission to ascribe evil .intentions to bis neighbors. The impression made on our mindjiy the speech of Mr Paige is tlmt the re; gentleman could not have read the article on which lie commented, Tbt sole object and aim of the article wc published was to secure, if possible, better treatment for. : needy cases ol chronic disease, such as phthisis and paralysis. When a worthy motive for what we wrote appeared "on the surface of our remarks, it was quite unnecessary for the Key W. E. Paige to dig beneath the surface in order tc discover an gmrarthy one. The Kev W. B. Paige will remember thai when a little more than a year age lie presided over the Benevolent Trust tho lijGpector, in his teport to the Colonic Secretary^rote as follows; —" The modus opkqtfoot the North Wairarapa Benevolent Society wjs so extraordinary that I hesitate to lesoribo." This was the' official andorsement of a management foi (vliitfli Mr Paige was primarily resppnsibfe. \}fri ajjgflld, Ijowever, be sorry.-to impute to lfis py bad intention for th,e fmsm to wliioji the tajtor drew attention!' W.ekuo'w, the .contrary, tjijit Mr.Paige vas in earnest and' coiis, cientiouß: Vorlsei j he presided overlie affairs oi Mistakes were merely b T° tS lent. But the Rev W. 11. i u . 0 nust remember that he lives iti°a llass house and that he is theiast nan in the community who can ndiilgo with impunity in the amuselent of throwing stones.
