Auckland, Wednesday, The British Consul at Samoa has issued a proclamation stating that .war has been declared by the Imperial German Government against the Samoan Islands, and enjoining all those in charge of British vessels in Samoan waters to allow reasonable search for contraband of war material, The United States Consul has also issued a proclamation warning American residents against talcing part in the hostilities, aud that while they remain neutral they will be protected, and further, should any of their property be injured, to at oiice report it so that offenders may bo brought to justice.
- Smuggled Tobacco, Wanganui, Wednesday. T., G. Pliilpot, grocer, was this morning fined £25 and costs for having smuggled tobacco on his premises,
