CARTERTON.

, (From Our Own Correspondent.) 'There was a good congregation assembled yesterday to witness the induction of the Rev ChasMurray'to the pastorate of tho Presbyterian Church at • Carterton. The; Bervice was conduoted by the Rev.-.J> E. Elliott, of Wellington, who 'gave -a very eloquent discourse, taking- for his. text the, 10th verse of the 49th chapter' of Genesis,',' After the usual questions, had; been put and satisfactorily answered (according to the usual proceedings in inducting a new minister to the charge; of a Presbyterian .congregation) .the Rev D. Fulton delivered a very impressive address. In the evening there was a tea meeting. It .was the largest gathering I ever saw in Carterton at a tea meeting, but the promoters were quite equal to their task, for there was ample supply of all the good things needful, and the ladies were indefatigable in their exertions to see that every one was well cared for. After full justice bad been done to the good things provided by the ladies, the. tables were removed and a public meeting was held, the speakers being the Revs J. Paterson, C. S. Ogg, J. K, Elliott,—Thomp-. son, of Wellington, and the new Minister (Chas, Murray). The Rev. gentlemen kept the audience well interested, flhich was no mean task considering the heat of the evening for the room was literally packed, The choir rendered Borne good assistance with their music and solos. During the evening a collection was made to provide funds for a new church, which resulted in the sum of £4 4s being gathered. The mesling was brought to a olose by the Rev C, Murray, who presided, pronouncing the benediction about ten o'clock, 4 vote of thanks to the. choir and to the ladies for the luxurious tea provided, and to the speakers, was carried by acclamation,
