A Peculiar Affair.
Dunedin, Monday, A peculiar afi'air has been reported to the police at Baiclutha. Joseph Valentino called, on the policp on Saturday and reported that on the 28 th inst. he was taking a child two weeks old from his mothers, house to that 1 of bis sister.- While walking along the banks of the Cluthu river, it being a dark night ho stumbled and the child All into the river and was never seen Bince. It is said to be legitimate. Valentine was detained in custody pending enquiries.
