CRICKET.

The cricket season was commenced in to asterton on Saturday by the Masterton Cricket Club. A match Married v Singlo was to havo been pkyod but owing to tho lute arrival of soino of the benedicts, it was postponed till next .Saturday, Tho Captain and Vice Captain pioked sides, and after a most onjoyablo gamo the formor side won by 15 runs, Erskino 22, not out, Bremner 10, Jackson 10 and Moore 10 wore tho principal scores for the viotors. C. Perry 28, not out, was the only batsman to reach double figures on tho other sido. Pownall and Smith bowled best for tho winners and Iggulden for the vanquished. The pitch played splendidly and much satisfaction was expressed at tho improved condition of the ground compared with previous years. The following are the scores:—
