MEETING OF CREDITORS.

' Estate of Brown aiid Rogers. A meeting in the above estate was hold at Masterton yesterday, Mr W. Cellar presiding. --, . " Mr Jeiliooo, as representing Booth' & Co,, moved, "That in the opinion of this meeting the bankruptcy proceedings will be more advantageously conducted in the superior Court of Bankruptcy held in " Wellington." This was seconded by Mr T. Ballinger kind carried,- .

It was also resolved; on the motion bf,Mr Jellicoe, that the bankrupts should be publicly examined, and that noallowancb should ; be.raade to thein, Mr Alexander Dongall-wos-exani--ined by Mr.Jellicoe as to. the; bankrupts' dealings with him. He declined to say whether 1 he had any arrangement with the Bank of New-South Wales,inconneotionwith the building of houses, the contract for which he let to Brown and Rodgers. The contract price was .Hetwas led by Mr Fannin,, the architect, to believe the contractors were respectable people. Ho declined to say whethet ho paid the contractors out of money appropriated, by the Bank of New South Wales for the purpose, or whether or not the Bank found the money.

Mi'Fannin, architect, was examined and stated that he was introduced to MrMcDomyilfbyMr Pcrston, manager of the Bunk of New South Wales, in September, 1887, and engaged asarcliitoot for Mr McDougall who was about to build six houses, Subsequently, he iound that tho bank was finding tho money; the bank would not pay McDougall's cheques without witnesses certificate. Tho bankrupts deposited a marked cheque for £260 with their first tender. Ho found a good deal of difficulty in dealing-with, the bankrupts and Mr McDougall. Ho wished to publioly deny that he had been in partnership with the bankrupts in the job. Progress payments were made iu excess to the amount of £770. On tho 6th August Mr McDougall obtained from him a certificate for £550, which embraced part 'of the excess. Mr McDougall told him Messrs Dawson wanted the money to securo thorn, and as Mr MoDougall was the omployerhe gave the certificate. Had he known the position of tho bankrupts he would not have given it, Alexder Malcolm Brown, one of tho bankrupts was"then examined, and it was resolved that the Official Assignee take stops to have Mr Alexander McDougall publicly examined beforo the Judge, ."'.."'
