The Masterton Football Club's Quadrille Assembly appears to be increasing in popularity.' The sale of timber, horses and waggons, held yesterday by Mr F. H. Wood, on account of Messrs Henderson and Shute, at Morrison's Bush, was well atteniod and the bidding fur all lots .of timber offered keen and spirited, good prices being realised. Draught horses, howover wero not in such gosd demand, and sold at very low figures, ranging from £7 loa to £ls; box waggon £l9los, and drays £3 5s to £lO.
At (ho ovening sitting of the Houso yesterday, tho discussion on tho Otngo Central Railway Bill was resumed, The Premier said he had two alternatives to propose. Tho first was that the line should bo pushed on with as far as Middlemarch without delay. [lf the Government after inspection during the recess thought the lino should be pushed on further they would recommond it. The other was to still push on with tho line to Middlemarch as rapidly as possible, and then introduce a Bill to enable them to enter into a contract with a company who would be willing to take tho lino over and complete it to Olydo. Thoy did not proposo to give laud but railway to tho value-of fifty por cent of tho cost, and give, a guarantee to open up the land for settlement.
