At the City Court, Joseph Lemmer was fined £3O and costs on two charges of sly grog selling, or six weoks' imprisonment in default.
A man named Claud Belmer was drowned in tho Mikonui Giver, south of Ross, Tho body is not yet recovered,
Richard Porter, a well-known publican was found dead in bed from heart disease.
Auckland, July 12, The escaped French convicts (Jury and Gasparini wore agaiu brought before the Court this morning charged with stealing a cutter from Now Caledonia. No evidence being forthcoming Dr Gilo3 refused to grant a further remand and discharged the prisoners. Gasparini was further charged with stealing tobacco and cigars from Auckland premises and remanded for a week,
The prospectus of tho Kauri Timber Company received from Sydney shows that the Company has a capital of £1,200,000 in 000,000 shares of £1 oaclv of which '150,000 aro offered in Melbonrno at 5s on application, 5s on allotment, 5s in two months, and 5s in three months. Cury and Gasparini, tho French escapees have been spirited away and taken, it is believed, to Wellington, under secret, instructions. Cury was arrested while Jasparini was taken out of the look-up by detectives without the knowledge of the lock-up keeper. The police refuse to give information on. what authority tho prisoners wero removed. '.
