The above Club's met for their second heatin the Senior Cup contests on Saturday" last at Masterton, which resulted, in a win for Masterton by three points (1 goal) to nil.' The match ■ was a good test of the strength .of both Clubs, as they had their best teams in the field.,,F. Pairbrother, of Wellington representative reuownwas playing for the Rivals, and proved a tower of strength behind the scrum, Masterton was strongest in scrummaging, their loose dribbles gaining considerably at tiines, and placed their opponents line in danger repeatedly, but the good kicking of the Rival backs—which nevor seemed to fail them—always managed to transfer the play to less dangerous ground. Although the Rival forwards were overweighted they made a plucky stand, but the game was rendered very'slow at times owing to a desire on their part to fall on the ball to check the progress of tho opposing forwards. Tho game was played in excellent spirit, and was watched with great interest by a large crowd of spectators, among whom was a goodly number of ladies, and as there was no score up to within a few minutes of "no side" the oxcitenient grow intense whenever a good run, luck, or dribble was put in towards the end of the game. • Messrs G. Perry carried it still further from his goal lino. A Masterton forward rush was cleverly stopped by T. Moore at the Rival's twenty-livo Hag, at which place T. Komble marked twice in succession, but his kicks were anything but suooessful. At this ' point P. Pairbrother took a pass meant for Smith, and finished a good run by lacking into touch at Masterton's twenty-five. From the scrum that followed, P. Perry got possession and 1 put in a serviceable run, being collared 1 by Baumber near the Rival's twentyfive, H. Porry made a dodgy run and got through all but P. Pairbrother, ' t who grassed him just in time. j Snodgrass essayed a run, but Smith was in the way. Wallace marked j between the Rivals' twenty-fivo and 1 the centre, and 0. twenty-five, but some loose forward play carried itiuto tho visitors territory when H, Perry marked and Smith took a place at goal, Tho hall was stopped by the opposing forwards and carried it down the field when Nini got possession aud made a'serviccable run. A Rival forward rush, which was well stopped by J. Perry, who was tackling woll, brought tho first spell to a close the ball being in the centre,
Tho second spell opened by Fairbrother putting in a good run ho being grassed by C. Perry noar tho centre. Tho Rivals lino was menacod by a rush and relieved by McCarthy kicking into touch. C, Perry got a mark and drop-kioked for goal. Snodgrass returning the kick well up. F. Porry obtained a free kick for off-side play hut did not gain much for Ins side. A run by F.
