Lord Knutsford, replying to the request made by the Postal Conference held in January last in Sydney that tho Admirality should survey the route for the Pacific cable, says , that H.M.S. Egeria, which is now on a general surveying tour, would furnish information concerning the deep sea soundings for a general line of cable, but that to survoy the route to any purpose would entail long and searching examination. lord Knutsford adds that no alteration can now be made in the Jigeria's orders.
