Specimens of galena from the Welcome claim, Owen, assayed by Mr Skev, have yielded at the rate of 91oz 14dwt Bgr of sjlver to tho ton, and 116oz 18dwt 4gr. to the ton respectively, The latter specimen contains a little gold, and 64 to 92 per cent of .lead. At tho Wellington and.Silverstream cases, a lode of gold from 3in to 9in n width was found at the junction of he two claims on sinking 2£o. -it has opened out to 3ft. . Geo .Rhind," engineer of tlio New Plymouth Harbor Board gave evidence, proving as to having swept the bottom of tbe harbor with a chain about the locality wliero the Hawea was supposed to have struck, and finding no obstruction.. The following day lie was told by a Maori that the rook existed about 500 feet in shore from where the Hiiwea now lies.' He examined the place and found rock. Mining Accident. Thames, Wednesday. Two minora named George Snelger and Alfred Nowdick, in the employ Qf the Sapou Gold Mining Company, sustained injuries of a severe nature last night by a quantity of mullock falling on them. Snelger had his leg ■broken, while Newdick. was badly bruised. Important Discovery of Coal. Maori Meeting-House BurnedWoodvillk, Wednesday. Coal lias been found in tlio vicinity of the copper deposits. A fine meeting house at tlio Maori Pa at Ngawapurua, Wairarapa North County, was burned down last night. It is not known how the lire occurred. SUPREME COURT, Wellington, Wednesday. The boy McMinn, found guilty of stealing a ring was sentenced to six days imprisonment and a whipping. Geoi go Bwart for larceny of a gun was' sentenced to three years. There were six provious convictions recorded against liiin of petty larceny. John Pomeroy, alias Collins, for forgery,was sentenced to four years imprisonment, He was only discharged in May, serving sentence for a similar offence. Jatnes Madden, for bankruptcy, was discharged as the Counsel for tho prosecution, Mr Jellicoe, intimated he did not intend to addtioe an; evidence, as the creditors did not now believe that Madden had any felonious intentions. This closes the session.
