R.M. COURT.
MASTERTON-FRIDAY,
Before Mr Von Stunner, R.M,
Clemen Andresen was chargi with being drunk yesterday in Hal street.
Sergeant Price said this was a first offence as regards being drunk, but the prisoner had been travelling round with periodicals and getting a deposit from different people. He had in one instance gone to a private house and thrown the paper down before the lady
of tbe house and insisted upon her looking over tliem. He took advantage of the absence of the husband to call at different houses, and in an offensive manner to force his periodicals upon the notice of the inmates, and in many instances he got money on the promise of delivering the books. His Worship said ho could not understand how people could be so foolish as to part with their money
before the article was delivered. He could understand their putting their names to a list, and promising to pay on delivery. He strongly cautioned the prisoner.
