Taratahi-Carterton Road Board.
The usual monthly meeting'of the above Board to held at Carterton on Saturday last, Present—Messrs IT. E. Bunny (Chairman), W. Parker, E. W. Dorset, J. Rayner, Jas. Stevens, N. Grace, H, Braitlnvaite, and W. B. Allen.
Before the minutes were read, Mr 11. E. Bunny thanked the members for the favor in re-electing liira chairman, and hoped that they would work as harmoniously in future as they had in the past. He also regretted the absence of Mr Booth from the Board.
The minutes of the previous meet ing were confirmed. The Treasurer reported a credi balance of £279 17s 7d.
Correspondence was read from Mr Drew, requesting that the water tables be deepened on the road leading to his property on the Taratalii.—Left to the Warden. From the Chief Surveyor, regretting that he had no one at leisure at present to attend to the Board's wants, From Mr Gowor, asking permission to shift a gate. — Granted, From F. Meenkin, complaining about the Ranger sending his children to impound cattlo, instead of doing it himself.—lt was resolved that the Hanger be informed that he must do tlio worlc himself, and if any further complaints wore mado, he would be dismissed from the office, From Mr Angove, complaining that the culvert put in on Cobden Eoad threw the water on to his property.— Left to the Warden to deal with, An application from Mr James Martin to get twenty chains of bush fell at 80s por chain was granted,
Mr L. Nix waited on the Board, asking that a pieco of road be laid off loading from Mr Eaton's property, lie (Mr Nix) agreeing to fence it himself or deposit the money for the erection of the fence in the hands of the Board. The application was granted.
Mr Gasldn asked the Board to get certain road lines fell on roads through his property, as lie was getting his bush felled, and the work could bo done cheaper now than it would bo done afterwards.
It was rcsolvod that the work be done, Mr Gaskin drew the attention of the Board to the dangerous position of the gravel pit near the Clareville school, and askod that it be fenced. It was resolved that it bo fenced with a paling fence under the supervision of Mr Derrick.
Mr Graoo moved that the sorvioos of the roadmen be continued during the winter months on the GladstoneWainuioru road. Seconded by the Chairman and carried, Mr Dorset asked to be allowed about £lO on the Kokatu Boad, the settlers offering to contribute the samo amount and also £5 011 the road leading to Butler's property. The application was granted. Mr Allen asked to be allowed to get a few chains of metalling done at Clareville. Granted.
Permission was given to Mr Bayner to get the largo stones broken and the ruts raked in on Hughes' line.
Mr Derrick was instructed to lengthen a culvert at South Carterton leading to Knutsen's roijd. Mr Braitlrjvaite suggested a by-lp should be passed for the regulation qf the width qf wheels, and fllsp to preventpucl) yery heavy loads being earned over the toada, The
matter was allowed to stand over until next meeting. Mr Stevens applied for permission to lay a tramway along the line of road near Messrs Williams and Boetham's boiling down works. Permission granted. Sundry accounts were passed for payment, and the meeting terminated.
