Wairarapa South County Council.
The statutory meeting of the South Comity Council was held at the Council Chambers, Carterton, on Thursday last, Present Urs 11, Bunny (Chairman), 11. R. Bunny, A. Matthews, C. Phillips, W. Wrattan, H. Braithwaitc, J. Martin, W. Booth, and W. C. Buchanan.
The minutes of tho previous meeting were confirmed. The Treasurer reported a credit balance of £Bl.
Cr Booth moved, and Cr Braitliwaite seconded, " That the allowance of 10s per week be continued to Mrs Barker for three months."
Correspondence was read from the District Aid Board, from Wairarapa North County Couucil on the late meeting, from Cliristchurch, asking the Council to co operate with them in petitioning Parliament to abolish the totalisator, from the ferryman of tho Wairarapa Lake, asking for a reduction of rent.
Cr Phillips moved, and Cr Matthews seconded, That the rent be lowered to 110 a year. Tne motion was carried. It was resolved that £5 be paid to the Greytown Hospital Board. The Cleric read the proceedings of the late meeting of delegates on the Ist of May at Masterton, in reference to the severance of the Wairarapa from the Wellington United District, and Hospital and Charitable Aid Board.
Cr Buchanan moved, and Cr Booth seconded, That this Council fully concurs in all tliat was done at the late meeting.—Carried. With reference to tho petition for a new Lower Valley Road Board, after a great deal of discussion on the matter a vote was taken as follows For the petitioners Councillors J. Martin and W. Wrattan; Noes: Cra W, Booth, A. Matthews, H. fl< Bunny
W. C, Buchanan, H. Braithwaite and C. Phillips. Estimates for the ensuing year were read and adopted. Sundry accounts were passed for payment and the Council adjourned till the second Saturday in August.
