Annual Meeting,

The adjourned annual meeting of ratepayers was held on Saturday, 26th inst, The following Board members were present Messrs W. Jessen (chairman), C. Forsberg, H. W, Jackson, 6. Gunaersen, and J. Bannister. The Treasurer (Mr Jessen) presented his annual balance sheet, showing assets over liabilities to be £722 Ja sd. tunity to congratulate the Board on its. steady progress during the two years it . has been in existence, The receipts for the year ending 31st March, 1888,0 are £222 9s lid, but adding this amount what is due from the'Crovern-. ment, viz—Subsidy, £24 8s 10dj Crown Lands rates,, £59 12s lOd; • D.P. and P.L.T., £532 5s Id, the total . -v will be £B3B 16a 8d; and a balance • from last year, £9119s ld; total, £930 v 15s 9d. The expenditure has been £406 8s 2d, and duo on contracts, £283 Is 3d; total, £689 9s 3d: leaving a surplus of £2416s 4d; outstanding rates to March 31st, 3616s 9d; but have sinco been greatly reduced. The balance sheet shows assets oyer liabilities, £722 7s sd, but deducting D.P. and P.L.T., £539 3s Id, it leaves the general assets at £lB3 4s 4d. As the year commenced with £97 12s sd, we have increased our assets by £BS lis lid. The cost of elections, advertising, printing, stationery, salary amounts to £39 13s 4d, bfEg under 6 per cent of the expenditure, which on the whole may be considered . highly satisfactory as compared with ■ other Boards. Mr Gunderson moved and Mr Jackson seconded that the report and balance sheet bo adopted. Mr Jessen then called on to elect a Chairman for the ensuing year, Mr Gunderson proposed and Mr Jackson seconded that Mr Jessen bo Chairman for tho ensuing year, but Mr Jessen intimated bis intention of not accepting the office. Mr Jackson then proposed Mr Gundersop which was seconded by Mr Bannister,-and; Mr Gunderson consenting it was carried. Mr Gunderson was also elected ' Treasurer. A hearty vote of thanks . was accorded to Mr Jessen for the valuable services he had rendered during tho two years he had been iu office, Mr Jessen returned thanks for the kind remarks passed by the members,-and the meeting then terminated, "jgf" Road Board Meeting.

An ordinary meeting of the Board was held. Present: G. Gunderson (Chairman), C Forsberg, J, Bannister, H. W, Jackson and W Jessen. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Corresponwfee was read from the Returning Officer reporting that Messrs Gunderson, Forsberg and Bannister had been returned unopposed and been duly declared elected, From Angus McLeod re falling bush on 1 road line in front of bis section. From Leslie Dorset re crossing to his section. From the Audit inspector requesting the accounts to be forwarded to Masterton. From same returning accounts. From Secretary to Treasurer re Deferred Payment Thirds. From Receiver of Land Revenue re same, From John Youiigson oflering to make a road to liis bridge for the sum of ,£5. From Receiver Land Revenue advising that vouchers for £471 had beerfyrepared for payment. From County Clerk re financial returns.

It was resolved to apply to the Land Board for leave to fall bush on rond line in front of Mr McLeod's section, and also make road to Yonngson'a bridge, Six tenders were received crossing, the lowest, £2 ■ 18s, Mr L. Dorset's, being accepted, It was resolved that a sum not exceeding £5 he spent oh clearing the watertables on Jackson's road, and a sum not exceeding £ls be spent on repairing Ma uriceville road, That at the meeting of the Board to be held on 30th June it is the intention of the Board to levy a general rale of threofarthings in the £ on the rateable value of the property within tlio district for the year commencing on the Ist April, 1888, and ending on 31st March, 1889, payable in one sum on 30th July, 1888, at Mr Gundersen's Central Store, and that the rate book be open for inspection at the same place.

The Treasurer reported a debfabal* •nice of £lO9 2s 4d. Accounts anMntin? to £7919s Gd were passed for payment.
