Court Costs,
(To tlie Editor.) Sir,—l see by the newspapers that after Ist June no solicitors' costs will ifj allowed for cases under £3. I tlnnl* it is quite time. I had a case on Wednesday, April 18th, of £ll7s sd, Jkthe costs I had to pay were £7 Ha. I think it a cruel robberymore cruel in that the plaintiff in the first instance summoned for £27l7g_ Bd, knowing quite well it was not coming to him, and owning in the Court with' his own lips, in answer to Mr Von Stiirmer, that he got over £32 out of £4O. He brought witnesses from Mauriceville who knew nothing whatever about the case in any way, except that he showed them his pay book. But in these dull times, it was an easy way to get good wages, when they could get. nothing to do at home. I now ask every English man and woman contemplating the employment of Scandinavians to think quietly before doing so. What they will gain by doing it? Thereare plenty of respectable, English tradesmen wanting work; plenty of English, Irish, and Scotch laborers wanting employment. Is it noUbn very foolish to employ foreignOr do they forget that they are completely at their mercy in a case of dispute of any description that may end in the R.M. Court. The Scandi* •navian, the moment he gets into Court, is again a child: the man who an hour previous could converse on most subjects, now knows nothing! Re can't wn toll yon liis name with-
out an interpreter; his memory is more than defective; and, as you look at him with astonislmiont and disgust, you feel you are his dupe. You look at the Magistrate—no matter who he is—and you see he is sympathising in his heart with the poor foreigner. The case is against you, before you even speak. 1 need not say you lose it, and leave tho Court, with your blood on fire, knowing you have not only been fleeced, but that he knows ho has fleeced you—his dupe, I am, sir., A VICTIM OF INJUSTICE—NCI JUSTICE.
