The various shipping companies have cabled to China instructing their agents to stop sending any further Chinese passengers until the present difficulty is settled. The Chinese passengers by the Afghan refuse to go to the Fiji sugar plantations, and will be sent back to China. Brisbane, May 8, A horrible murder was committed yesterday at Gladstone, a seaport town north of this city. The victim was a girl eight years old named Jilly, who was found with her throat cut. It is supposed that she was first criminally assaulted by a man named Kiss, who lias been arrested on suspicion. Melbourne, May 7. Two men wml HoHey and Wilson
have been sentenced to death for criminally " assaulting an aboriginal woman at Hamilton. Sydney, May 7. Hanlan states that ho was offered £4OOO to lose the race with Kemp, but lie refused. H anlan has been authorised to back Teenier against any man in the world for a stake from £IOOO to £SOOO. The dispute between Tricliett and Hanlan has been settled, and the race will come off as arranged.
