Extraordinary Delusions of a Captain.
The Bristol Marine Board recently investigated charges against Frederick Jowles, master of the barque Zulu, of London, from Brazil to Liverpool, As tho vessel'was making for Liverpool on JHk December, the accused, seeing a wigfit ahead, insisted that it was near Liverpool, instead of which it was at tho mouth of the Shannon, and eventually she was found in Galway Bay, Afterwards the accused insisted that the vessel was on lire, and sent up flares to attract a pilot, He then threatened to shoot the whole of tho crew, and so menacing was his conduct thsmiecrew had to overpower'him, amProck hira up in his cabin, When
the vessel arrived in the Shannon, a medical officer was sought for to give an opinion upon fowles' sanity, and on account of his report the accused was taken before a magistrate at Kilrush, He was, however, discharged on promising not to go on board the Zulu again. The court found that the accused was incompetent to discharge his duties as master, but it had not been proved that he was incompetent to hold a master's certificate.
