Wairarapa South County Council.

A meeting of the above Council was held at their office, Carterton, onSatur(M last. Present —Ors H. Bunny (Offairman), 11. K. Bunny, A. Matthews, W. C. Buchanan, W. Booth, J. Martin, W. AVratten, C. Phillips, and H. Braithwaite. A discussion arose about the nonpayment of rent for the Lake Ferry. Cr Phillips moved that the matter stand over till next meeting which was adked to. Thfulerk reported that lie had supplied Mrs Barker with goods to the amount of 10s per week as directed by the last meeting of the Council. A petition was read from the Whangarei County Council asking the Council to co • operate with them to try to get the Government to simplify the Public Works Act, to enable laud for roads to be taken without so much expense. From North Wairarapa County Council in reference to the meeting of delegates on the Ist May in reference to the Hospital and Charitable £id Board. Crs 11. Bunny, 11. Braithwaite, and W. C. Buchanan, were Appointed delogates to represent the Council at the meeting in Masterton. From the Featherston Road Board re the promises of donation to put them on the same footing as the TaratahiCarterton Road Board. The minutes of the Works Committee as read were adopted

THE LOWER VALLEY ROAD BOARD DISTRICT. Messrs Pliarazy n aud Don aid waited on the Council, asking that the request of the Lower Valley petitioners as to tlie new Road Board be not confirmed for the present, as there is another proposed road Board district in agitation if the petitioners' request bo granted.' Mr Donald also expressed his opinion that if a little time were allowed before the petition was ratified the misunderstanding would be .rectified. The matter was fully discussed by the various Coancillors, and it was moved by Councillor Martin, aud seconded by Councillor Booth, that the consideration of the petition be postponed till Thursday, 31st May. Jome accounts were passed for Moment, and the meeting terminated,
