A New Caledonia Terror. Auckland, Saturday. Gaspard, an escaped French convict, from New Caledonia, has been arras-, ted-here on two charges of housebreaking. The stolen articles were found in his possession.
Napier, April 20, To-day the funeral of Benata Kawepo took place at Omahu, thirteen miles from town, and attracted th 6 largest assemblage ever seen in Hawkes Bay, fully 6000 persons being presentEuropeans predominating, Several hundred volunteers took part, the funeral being a military one in recognition of Ronata's loyal services during the Maori wars.
