TRAIN ARRANGEMENTS.

Deputation at Mangamahoe; (By our Special Rep^r.) Mr, B. Dawson, Railway Traffic Man l ' nger, in response to an in vitation from the settlers of Mangamahoe, paid a visit to that Settlement oa Saturday last, to meet a deputation to discuss matters in connection with pfosenfc unsatisfactory, train arrangements.Mr R, V, Smith, who acted as spokesman, pointed out very forcibly the inconvenience which settlers around Eketahuna and Mangamahoe were put to. He thought the difficulty could be ; got over if the'early morning trains from Masterton on Tuesdays and Fridays were allowed to connect with Mauriceville and Mangamahoe, thus enabling those desirous of reac%g ; : Wellington by the first train The other suggestion wa'> , that the/ evening train which loaves Masterton for Mauriceville be allowed to run on as far as the Mangamahoe station on Wednesdays and Saturdays. If these' suggestions were carried into effect, Mr Smith was of opinion the Settlers .would be satislied, as it would give them an oujMjrtunity of attending the principal days. Mr Dawson, who as usuaFwas very, courteous, stated that lie would lay the suggestions before Sir Maxwell, the General Manager, and if the department could see their way clear to make the. necessary alterations, lie had no doubt they would do so. On previous ■ occasions during the holiday season, the department had put on special trains to and from Mangamahoe, but had run them at a loss, being only patronised at any one time by not moro than two persons. It would be impossible at present to run from Mangamahoe to catch every train, as it would necessitate increased expenditure, and this would result in a heavy loss to the Government. Mr S<nith then thanked Mr Dawson for coming up to meet the settlers and withdrew.
