ANNUAL REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES OF THE MASTERTON HOSPITAL, FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31st MARCH, 1888.
Thu Trustees of the Masterton Hospital in submitting their second annual report under the new Act, together •with the balance sheet and statement of receipts and expenditure for the year ended 31st March last, have to direct the attention of their friends and the public to the fact that had it not been for the assistance (which they gratefully acknowledge) afforded by the concert given for the benefit of the institution, an'd the consequent subsidy tspi, they would not have been able tofiake both ends meet without an appeal to the Local Bodies, It will bo seen that the receipts have been subscriptions 1189 13s Bd, proceeds of concert, £2o 2s, and Government subsidy £244 Os 4d, malting a total of £s4Blos,and the expenditure amounted to £48117s 3d, leaving a deficit of £23 Is 3d in the year's transactions. Tho numbor of patients admitted during the year has been 32 males and 2 females, of these 30 have been discharged cured or relieved, two who arrived in it moribund condition have died, and two remain in the Hospital. During the months of November and December the increasing numbor of patients (there being at one time as many as twelve), and of these cases two were of so serious a nature as to necessitate the engagement of additional nursing assistance and in this faanection, the Trustees desire to on record their appreciation of the valuable services voluntarily rendered by Mr John Williams, a convalescent patient, The Custodian and Matron, Mr and Mrs Adcock, have discharged their duties with kindness to the sufferers under their care. Messrs Dagg and Heron the representative of the County and Borough respectively, now retire, in consequence of no contribution having been received from their Councils during the past year, In January, two of the Trustees, Messrs -J. B. Keith and B, P. Perry, retired, in accordance with the Act, but were re-elected. In compliance with section 59 of."The Hospital and Charitable Institutions Act," the Trustees have duly furnished the District Board with a statement of estimated income and cost of maintenance of the Hospital for the current year, showing an estimated deficit of £49, but for which they have not requested the Board to make any provision, being in hopes that friends of the institution and those who have not hitherto subscribed will show their practical appreciation by a liberal response to the urgent appeal now made for increased assistance to enable the Hospital to continue selfsupporting by voluntary contributions. A list of subscribers is appended, in addition to which the Trustees thankfully acknowledge the receipt of donations of books, illustrated papers, old linen, etc., from a few kind friends. The Medical Officer, Dr. Ilosking, has performed his duties with skill, ability, and great success generally, and especially in the treatment of the very serious cases of the two patients so severely injured by a blasting accident at the Eaihvay Works at Waiwaka. The Trustees again bear testimony to the able and efficient manner in which Mr W. Sellar continues to fill the offices of Secretary and Treasurer. J. C. BODDINGTON, Chairman,
