Sydney, April T. Typhoid fever is increasing in the Broken Hill district, and fifty oases were reported to-day. Extra nurses h.a.Ye heen subscribed for. Melbourne, April 7. A fire broke out at Eeid's Coffee Palace, Ballarat, last night. There were fifty lodgers on the premises, most of whom escaped in their nightclothes. One was severely burned, and another had his arm dislocated while escaping by means of a rope. One half of the palace was saved. The Inmates were imprisoned in the burning building by the falling in of the staircase, but a sailor, who happened te be in the buildjng, made ropes of the bed clothes, and succeeded in keeping moat of the rest cool till they were lowered.
