Taratahi-Carterton Road Board.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the above Board was held on Saturday last, Present—Messrs H. R. Bunny (Chairman), N. Grace, W. Parker, E. W. Dorset, W. Booth, Jas. ritevens, J, Rayner, and W. B. Allen. Tho Clerk rendered a return of the Board's receipts and expenditure for the past year, ending 31st March, 1888, the present balance in hand being £164 4s. Correspondence was read ; From James Jepson, complaining about the road leading to his property, at the West Taratahi,—Resolved thai; the matter be left in the hands of the Warden. Prom Messrs Brandon, requesting permission to carry the road through section No, 216, Waiohino Valley, and asking the Board's position in the matter,—Resolved that they may form the road, providing they comply with the demands of the owners of the property through which it runs. Prom Mr Carter, asking what would be allowed him for cutting offTiw scrub on the road running through jjis property, and also in respect to taking the gravel troni the creek on his land. —Resolved, that as Mr Carter has the uso of the road, he must clear the scrub at his own expense if he wants it done. Prom Mr Johnston (Matarawa), asking that the timber, which the late winds blew iuto the creek, be cleaned out, otherwise water would be dammed back, and swamp the road. Mr Johnston was in attendance, and offered to do the work.—Resolved that the Warden get the work done, the cost not to exceed <£3 10s, for which the applicant offered to do it, Mr Francis asked that about £5 be spent on the road leading to some property of his, to enable him to get into it to sow grass seed. Mr Rayner objected to the said road as being a disputed and illegal one. Resolved that the matter stand over till the dispute is finally settled, and that the Land Officio written to for information. stated that he had been to Wellington in respect to the road leading from Somerset Road to Prancis' Road, and read the report in reference to his visit to the Land Office, which, shewed that there had been some clerical mistakes, and that the Board should apply to the Government to have the secttos resurveyed, It was resolved to df-this. Mr Parker informed the Board that Mr Hughan had not removed the obstructions which he promised to do on the Reserve boundary road. Resolved that £ls be spent in opening a drain on the Cemetery line, provided the occupiers of the land guarantee to keep it open afterwards, Resolved that all outstanding rates be immediately sued for, also that a levy of fd. in the £ be made at next meeting of the Board, Tenders accepted: 25 chains, Hughes' line, Cephas and Monaghan, at -£2O the job. 18 chains, same road, (b; Wiggins, at 18s 3d per chain. Oh jter Road, 16 chains, Thompson and Halfyard, at £2 per chain. Bristol Road, 40 chains, Cadwallader and Thomas, at £2 4s 4d per chain. Hilton Road, 5 chains, Davis and Drake, 18s 6d per chain. Accounts amounting to £ll6 2s 8d were passed for payment, and the meeting terminated,
