Alfredton Road Board.
A meeting of the Board was held pn Tuesday, 28th February last, Present,—Messrs Kebbeilj OJiairman), Smith, Walsh, Dunn and Bentou, The minutes of last meeting were.read and confirmed. Correspondence inwards was read as foliowsJfc-Frora the Board's solicitor, staitiiljfthat steps were being taken to ' dispose of the Rangitumau reserve, unless that tlio School Cammissionera pay all rates in arreap within fourteen days. From the North County Council with copy ~ of a resolution, asking if the pR is prepared to undertake the maintenance , of Uounty roads. It was resolved to i reply that the Board is prepared to undertake the maintenance of all roads' within the district. From the same agreeing , to the Board's proposal to expend £4O in improving the Eketaliuna Tinui road to the Board's vote of £2O. From the Treasury acknowledging the receipt of JS7S 2s 4d, being the amount of.interest due 12th February last, and enclosing a remittance to the Board's credit of £3814s 7d being rates on Crown Lands, and £lB Gs 5d being 75 per cent of subsidy. It" was resolved to the sa|d special rates fqr payment qf interest on a loan of £BBS, and (of the Tawataia wd Vffi^
roads respectively. It was also decided to lose no time in putting some of the works on both roads in hand at once, before the winter weather sets in, providing the Government will signify its willingness to giant some of the ,A money shortly. The following tenders *' were received for 60 chains of metalling on the Alfredton District road: - T, P. Girdwood, £BO (accepted), Jas. McMillan, £9918s sd; Anderson and • .Mc'Jucha. £l4B 10s. The Chairman •reported that the Committee appointed at the last meeting to take action in the matter in dispute with'Mr Phillips had been in Wellington and took advantage thereof in seeing Counsel uud " getting the case laid fully belore tho latter. Resolved that thanks of the Board bo awarded to tho Committee for the trouble taken in Mr Phillips' matter, and that tho Board express its entire approval of what has been done, Mr Marsh intimated that in consequence of his contemplated visit to Europe, and as he intends leaving next week, he has decided to resign from the Board. Accounts amounting to 17s 4d were passed for payment, Messrs Marsh and Benton were appointed to sign cheques, and the next meeting was fixed for Tuesday the 3rd April next.
