The Civil Service Grind. Wellington, Friday. A Commission consisting of several beads of Departments, have been holding an inspection of various Departments in the Civil service in connection with a Government retrenchment scheme. The Government intend to •lassify all clerksinthe service into several classes, each class will have a maximum and minimum salary, so that no officer in that class can get more or less than a fixed amount. All new servants in future will enter as cadets, and will ascend class by class as their merits warrant. As many of those engaged in different Departments in the same kind of work frequently differ considerably in the amount of pay, an effort will be made to equalise the salaries so that one will not receive more than another.
