Carterton Borough Council.

The ordinitry monthly mooting of the above Council was held yesterday. , Present; His Worship the Mayor, (in frUie chair), Crs J, Bayliss, A. Booth, ™T. Moore, G. W. Deller, A. Mackenzie and W. Vickerstaff. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Gr Vickerstaff reported that about 20 chains of metalling had been done on the main street since last meeting, and about 25 chains on Belvedere road. Tho Inspector of Nuisances reported a hole in the road opposite the Marquis of Normanby Hotel. Gr Vickerstaff reported that E. Butler had not completed his contract according to agreement. Gr Moore said that the contract had been faithfully carried out. Cr Moore moved, and it was carried that Crs Booth and Mackenzie inspect the work in lieu of the present Committee, Crs Moore and Vickerstaff. The Mayor suggested that the carts be withdrawn from the Belvedere road to the south" end of the Borough, as the money 1 which the Council had at their comjfj ' mand was nearly exhausted. This was agreed to, ■ The Mayor referred to the late fire and also to the resignation of the Fire Brigade and moved Jhat the Carterton Ride Volunteers' fmLo asked to form a volunteer fire brigade. The motion was carried. The Mayor also referred to the old Town Hall, and pointed out that it might be better utilised by letting the volunteers remove it when they rebuild and connect it with their hall for a drill shed and office. An application from Mr W, Catt for leave to erect a verandah in front of his new building was granted. Cr Bayliss gave notice that he would move at the next meeting of the Council that the Dog Registration Act be brought into force in the Borough. Cr Mackenzie, that he would move that the Act referring to Licensing Public Buildings be brought into use. The pay sheet amounted to £lO9 8s 7d, was passed for payment, and this concluded the business.
