Worth while Being Hurt.
Melbourne, February 8. Mr Baker has obtained £4OOO damages for injuries which he sustained in the Windsor railway accident. The amount claimed was £IO,OOO, Another action for damages arising out of the accident is pending, a doctor who was injured ,on that occasion having instructed his solicitors to commence proceedings for the recovery of £12,000.
An English Railway Man Appointed.
Adelaide, February 8. Mr Joseph Smith, of the Great Western Railway Company, has been appointed Chairman of the South Australian Railway Commission, at a salary of £2500 per annum.
A Modern Major-General. Major ■ General Downes, R.A., C.M.G., has been appointed Colonial Commandant of the Volunteer Military force for a term of five years.
