Thorndon v. Masterton,
. Singles. Goring (Thorndon) beat Cox (MasP terton); 6—l and 6-2. Thorndon t man played splendidly; very strong in volleying. Izard (Thorndon) beat Stokes (Masterton) ; 6—2 and 6—5. Good hard set, good rallies. Hidings (Thorndon) beat Thompson (Masterton);6-0 and6-0. Thorndon man too strong; his play very much admired. Brown (Thorndon) beat Bunny (Masterton); 4—6, 6-o,and 6-2. Good hard set; local man doing very well at first, but did not improve as set went on. Coleman (Masterton) boat Brandon (Thorndon); 1-6, 6-4, and .6-4. Best contested single, good hard play on both sides; Doubles. and Eoss (Thorndon) beat "ompson and Djer (Masterton); 6-1 and 6-2. Thorndon men too good, played splendidly. Cox and Stokes (Masterton) beat Brown and Izard (Thorndon); 6-5 and 6-5. Best contested double, good play on both sides, some very t long rallies. Goring and Brandon (Thorndon) beat Bunny and Coleman (Masterton); 6—2 and 6—3. Local men made a good stand at first, some good play all round. - The single between Eoss (Thorndon) and Dyer (Masterton) was not played owing to want of time, The day's play, it will be seen, resulted in the Thorndon Club gaining six events out of the eight played, Masterton being victorious only in the single match when Mr Coleman beat Mr Brandon, and in the double match .■Jax which Messrs Cox .and Stokes beat Wessrsßrownandlzard.Thelocalteam was, however, weakened to a slight extent by having to play with one of its emergency men in the place of Mr Holmes Warren who was absent.
